Ed and Barb Tarconish of Barnesville, Pa., were selected from more than 3,000 entries to participate in RV Rescue, an extreme RV makeover event being held during The Rally April 7-10 at the Daytona Motor Speedway.
The entire makeover process, which will equip their 27-foot 1984 Winnebago Chieftain motorhome with the latest in RV products and a new interior decor, will be filmed and later aired on RVtoday.
According to event organizers, the winners are both 47-year-old high school teachers, and have two children, Emily, 19, a student at Penn State University, and Jake, 11.
Their entry included the details of Emily’s recovery from a traumatic brain injury suffered four years ago. When she awoke from a coma, she had full amnesia and couldn’t talk, walk or swallow. However, after 34 days of intense rehab she walked out of the hospital, returning to her position on the cheerleading team and later earning a scholarship for her writing skills.
“The kids are extremely excited. They’re overjoyed to say the least,” said Ed Tarconish. “Our friends are amazed. Some are in disbelief.”
Dometic Corp. is serving as title sponsor for the event while Camping World is the retail sponsor. South Bend, Ind.-based designer Melody Rose will be overseeing the RV makeover.
“We are glad to be bringing such a deserving family this RV Rescue. The decision was very difficult, there were many worthy entries,” said Brad Sargent, Dometic vice president of marketing. “We’re thrilled to be part of a family that comes together and uses the RV lifestyle to grow and to connect.”
He added. “It will be exciting to transform a 1984 motorhome into a contemporary, high tech living environment designed totally around the Tarconish family’s design tastes and lifestyle.”
Other RV suppliers that will be providing product for the makeover include: Roadmaster tow bars; Safe-T-Plus steering controls; Hydro Life water filters; Jensen mobile entertainment systems; Westland Sales’ Vesta countertop dishwasher and Splendide RV washer/dryer; Summit Products body armor; Xantrex inverter/charging systems; LaSalle Bristol’s Celano portable stainless steel grill; Haulmark trailers; and RV Mobile Service, Inc.
