North American Forest Products Inc., Edwardsburg, Mich., a supplier of wood products for the RV and manufactured housing industries, will close an Elkhart, Ind., facility and move 40 jobs to its Michigan headquarters factory, which will be expanded next year.
“We lease a building in Elkhart, and we are landlocked so we can’t expand,” said North America CFO Brett Lamont. “We are looking to consolidate everything into our Michigan operation.”
The Elkhart factory, which will close sometime in 2007, has been open for about four years and manufactures molding and trim products for the RV and MH industries.
North American intends to spend $3.35 million to increase by 50% the size of its 200,000-square-foot factory on 97 acres in an Edwardsburg industrial park about 20 miles northwest of Elkhart.
Lamont said the Elkhart division’s 40 employees will be offered jobs in Michigan.
In Michigan, North American currently distributes lumber and manufactures roof trusses, wall studs, joists and other wood components for both the RV and MH sectors.
The Edwardsburg expansion will be aided by about $580,000 in state and local grants for water and sewer improvements at the site and the construction of about a quarter mile of industrial roadway required due to heavy truck traffic that the expansion will generate.
