Workhorse Custom Chassis, in conjunction with the Recreation Vehicle Service Training Council’s satellite training program, will begin providing technician training for servicing its new R Series rear diesel engine motorhome chassis beginning in January.
The first Workhorse diesel satellite training sessions will be Jan. 16, Jan. 23 and Jan. 30. Others are scheduled for Feb. 6, Feb. 13, Feb. 20, March 6, March 13, March 20 and March 27.
Workhorse also has scheduled four-day intensive training classes about its diesel chassis for March through December of next year at its Rochester Hills, Mich., training site.
Workhorse will begin production of rear diesel engine motorhome chassis late in the first quarter of 2003 at its new plant in Hagerstown, Ind.
Its diesel chassis will come with 330-, 350- or 400-horsepower Cummins engines and Allison 3000 Series automatic transmissions.
The service training council operates under the auspices of the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) to provide 60 hours of technician training per year via satellite to dealership service departments.
Dealerships must buy a satellite dish and antenna costing around $2,000 and pay an annual subscription fee of $1,300 to get the training programs.
The programs consist of two 10-class training sessions. Each class lasts 90 minutes and can be taped for later review.
All sessions include pass/fail quizzes to obtain a certificate for the material covered.
The four-day intensive training course on the diesel chassis in Michigan will cost $250 per student.
Eighty percent of the training will be hands-on and taught by ASE certified instructors. Students (limit of eight per class) will learn how to use proper diagnostic equipment and work on actual Workhorse platforms.
Students who successfully pass both a written and a hands-on pass/fail proficiency exam at the end of each course receive a certificate. Students also receive Workhorse logo patches and course chevrons.
