Workhorse Custom Chassis will share facilities in Hagerstown, Ind., with its sister company, Autocar LLC, the builder of the Xpeditor heavy-duty truck model used for refuse collection and construction equipment.
Both Workhorse and Autocar are units of Grand Vehicle Works Holdings Corp. of Highland Park, Ill.
Workhorse builds gas-engine Class A motorhome chassis in nearby Union City, Ind., and will build rear-mounted, diesel-engine Class A chassis in Hagerstown beginning in late February or early March.
Workhorse and Autocar will share a factory formerly used by auto parts supplier Dana Corp.
Grand Vehicle Works acquired the Xpeditor line from Volvo Trucks North America in July 2001. Autocar will begin Xpeditor production in Hagerstown in the second quarter of this year and it hopes to reach full production by July.
Workhorse and Autocar will employ around 200 at Hagerstown, with Autocar accounting for around 155 full-time jobs.
