Final approval for a proposed 63-acre Yogi Bear Jellystone Park in Byram, Miss., will be voted on next week, according to a report in the Clarion Ledger.
In a unanimous vote last month, the Hinds County Planning Commission recommended rezoning the property from agricultural to commercial.
Property owner Jeff Perrett said the proposed resort will follow the Yogi Bear blueprint, offering visitors access to four lakes, a water slide, miniature golf and a convention center.
“This is more than just an RV park. It’s geared for vacationers,” he said, noting that cabins, canoes and paddle boats would be available for rental.
In Perrett’s filing with the Hinds County Planning and Zoning Department, he said the Byram campground would offer space for 200 campsites and start with 10 to 15 cabins.
Perrett calculated the park, which would be two miles from Interstate 55 and open year-round, could bring in $2 to $4 million annually to the community of about 13,500 residents.
Currently, Perrett is in talks with Leisure Systems, Cincinnati, Ohio, parent to the Yogi Bear camground chain, to finalize the purchase.
